The Day Of The Hearing

The hearing was different than I thought it would be. There wasn't very many people there that I knew.

First Randy was Questioned. He looked nervous. He needed a smoke and so did I. All of the Soc's told the same story and stuck mainly to the truth. The only thing was they said that Johnny killed Bob. I wished everything went back to normal but it didn't. And I couldn't tell anybody that because I'd be lying.

Life without Johnny was too hard. I'd see Johnny almost everyday and we would have a good time. But now there is a blank spot in my heart that can never be filled. I'm sure all of us have a blank spot in our hearts. When mom and dad died I thought my life was over and now that Johnny died I don't know if I can live without him. I wonder who's next. I hope there is no next but really it's the way we live. At one point or another we all will die. At one point or another we will lose family or friends. At one point or another we will learn to live life as life wants you to live.

Stay With Us Johnny

We all ran into the hospital and to Johnny's room. Before we could get there the doctor stopped us. He explained that he was dying, but that made us want to go in there even more. Eventually we got in. It was like Johnny didn't even notice we were there. He didn't move at all. All was silent until he managed to say 'Hey'. But that was pretty much as much as we could get out of him.

Dally started to tell Johnny that we had beat the Soc's. but before he could say anything else Johnny told us that there is no point in fighting.............fighting is no good. In a sense I agreed with him but most of me didn't. We've been fighting the Soc's all of our life. It is time that we have the sweet taste of victory. All of us at the same time said that we are all proud of him and we meant it. Johnny's eye's glowed more than they had ever before. That is all he wanted. Johnny said something to me but I didn't really understand it. I leaned closer and he said, "Stay gold Ponyboy. Stay gold!"

The pillow sunk a little and that was it. Johnny died.

WE WANT TO SEE JOHNNY!!!!

Of course the mean old nurses wouldn't let us see Johnny. I kept thinking to myself 'if I can't see Johnny and he dies I will really never see him again.' That scared me more than the Soc's did! Two-Bit wouldn't take any answer other than no from them so we begged and pleaded until the nurse came out.

He said, "Let them in, it won't hurt now."

We tip-toed into the room and looked a Johnny. The nurse told us that Johnny was dying. All of a sudden I was speechless.

I Hope Dally And Johnny Are Okay!

There were 3 of us sitting in the waiting room of the hospital waiting to see how Dally and Johnny did. All of a sudden some reporters and the police popped out of nowhere and asked us too many questions for us to answer. I told them that I wasn't really feeling good that day. I was feeling more on the sick side. They wouldn't stop asking us questions. I couldn't handle it. Not to mention it but I couldn't really understand them. Even Sodapop was starting to get annoyed by the reporters.

Finally we got some answers we were longing for. Dally would be okay after 2 or 3 days. He got a couple of injuries. He had a burnt arm and it would be scarred for life. That wasn't the worry I had after hearing that. It was Johnny.

Johnny was in critical condition. He had a severly injured and broken back. He also had some third-degree burns and was in shock. They had him pumped up on pain killers but that didn't get rid of all the pain. Once the doctor told us the news he told us to go hame and get some rest. I felt like crying but I managed to hold it in.

What,The Church Is On Fire?

There was a crowd right in front of the church and it was mainly little kids. I figured out the the people was on a school trip to just have picnic. But then next they knew it the church was burning down. I knew one thing was good that the fireman was going to be here soon!

I thought that we had started it or something because we were smoking in there. Then all I could here out of nowhere was a lady coming to us and saying a few of the kids are missing. That urked me so bad and I knew I had to do something seeing as how we started it but of course by accident. I might have cut myself if I threw a rock through the window and climbed through. My eyes started to fill with smoke and coughed when I took a deep breath. The window was to small or so I thought. But really I was too fat!

I eventually got in and got to the back. Now I remembered what it was like to live in a bunch of red ember. It's a red hell. I pushed the door open and saw 4 little kids huddled up in a corner. On was screaming his head of and I assured him that we would get him outta there.

When this was all over I thought I was going to jail but luckily for us we didn't.

The Public Pool

It was just last night when we had another encounter with the Soc's. Johnny and I was in the public pool in the park at around two-thirty. It was fall and the Pool wasn't open so nobody could get in without climbing the fence which wasn't really hard work. Here was our hideout from the Soc's and they have never found us here until we both heard the most horrible blast from a car horn. It was the Soc's. Their blue Mustang was circling the park looking for a way in. This night finally turned from good to bad to worse just within a couple of seconds.

It was too late. Five Socs came out of the car and headed straight for us. When I said that this night has gotten even worse, I mean it was hell. By the way that the Socs were staggering when they walked I knew that they were drunk. I took one last whiff of my weed and ground the stub in the ground. They outnumbered us 5 to 2. I was feeling alright until Bob said that we picked up their girls. I knew that this would start a fight. They were out of their territory and I don't know why they were so far east. Bob was eying up Johnny and that was making me even more mad. Their definition for greasers is white trash with long hair. That just brought me right down. I could feel the blood draining from my face. Then I called them white trash with mustangs and madras. I knew that was the wrong thing to do. They asked me if I needed a bath. I ducked and tried to run but that failed. They twised my arm backwards and shoved my face right into the fountain. I thought I was going to die and wondered what was going to happen to Johnny.

Next thing I knew it I was laying on the pavement. I didn't die. I saw Johnny in the corner of my eye. I asked him what happened and he replied slowly that he killed Bob, the handsome Soc.

In The Drugstore

Today Dally was waiting for Johnny and I at the corner of Pickett and Sutton. When we arrived we noticed that we were a bit early before going to the Dingo, so to waste our time we went to the drugstore to fool around. We all bought some cokes and got a few extra straws to blow at the waitress.

When we were done we were all looking for some things to throw or kick around out in the open. Then as soon as I kicked one the manager walked up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. He suggested we leave or there maybe some concequences. Of course we didn't, right away anyway's.

When the manager thought we were just about to leave he went into his office. He reall should've escorted us all of the way out of the store because Dally snuck 2 package of Kools under her coat. Then we left. I was really surprised she did that because if the manager saw her do that then she would be in big trouble.

We eventually made it o the Dingo. Thats where the Greaser's go. The Soc's didn't go there because they thought tat hey were really to good for that place. I thought otherwise. I was sort of happy because that meant that was a hiding spot from the Soc's.

Ever since that girl got shot at the Dingo I've been afraid to go back. It was a very scary hangout. There was and is always a fight there. I've only started a couple of them but not ententoinally, of course. Luckily for me, nobody really got hurt.
